Baby Lessons
Development
Taking your baby swimming from birth is the best time to start. Apart from being a lovely sensory time for the baby, it helps to improve coordination, develops cognitive and physical awareness, builds confidence, and creates a bonding experience with parents.
Progression
So after teaching your baby some verbal and non-verbal cues, they could progress to submersions. However, only if you are also ready. If you are, they can move to underwater swimming. We pay great attention to detail, so we always read baby and parents as one because parental anxiety can rub off on babies and children, meaning they can subconsciously fear the things their parents fear.
Reflexes
Your little one is born with a reflex called the ‘gag reflex’, and it’s at its peak in their first six months. The gag reflex goes into action when your baby feels water on the face, nose or throat. When your baby goes underwater, the soft tissue at the back of the throat (called the larynx) closes to block the airway entrance.
As our lessons progress, you’ll be amazed by how well your little ones respond to the cues for underwater swimming and fun activities. There is always a lot of emphasis on water safety in the lessons.
LEVELS
Stage 1 (3 – 12 months)
Stage 2 (1 – 2 years)
Stage 3 (2 – 3 years)
Children Lessons
Young Fins Swimming structured programme of seven stage levels was created after years of experience in the water, teaching all age groups and abilities. Its great foundation is built on the Swim England Learn to Swim Programme.
Teaching on a mainly one-to-one or two-to-one basis maximises progression and allows us to tailor each swimmer’s teaching plans so that every swimmer can follow our programme at the same time.
We at Young Fins Swimming believe that good teaching means being able to read, map, and identify every individual’s needs and fears and clearly understand each person’s unique personality. This is the key to quick progress and success.
Adults
It’s never too late to learn to swim or improve your stroke technique, or maybe you are about to undertake a sporting challenge for a specific event. We will tailor an individual plan to ensure you achieve your goals.
Swimming is very therapeutic, and building a relationship with the water can make many important occasions in your life. When you’re immersed in water, nobody can reach you. Make the most of it so clear your mind!
Developing a bond with the water, overcoming fears, and controlling our bodies can be challenging. However, with a properly developed plan and help from an experienced instructor, you will learn to manage your breathing, learn the correct mechanics of the stroke, and have a good body position to maximise your swimming and develop speed and stamina.
We offer a variety of lessons and coaching sessions depending on your individual needs. Private(one-to-one) and semi-private (two-to-one) lessons are available, so please contact us.
